For college students on D2L · starting at ORU
Know exactly what to do.Without digging through D2L.
Professors spread assignment details all over D2L. Sherpa finds the instructions, rubrics and files, and puts each assignment’s pieces in one place, with the source attached.
- Write a 1–2 page reflection
- Connect it to an example from class
- Rubric attached
The problem
Everything you need is in D2L. It’s just scattered.
The instructions might be in the dropbox, the rubric three folders deep in Content, and a change in last week’s announcement. Now do that for five classes.
- 47%
- of assignments had nothing written in the dropbox (223 of 471). The instructions were somewhere else.
- 68
- times Sherpa found those instructions elsewhere in D2L and matched them on its own. Students undid one.
From Sherpa’s beta at ORU, as of September 30, 2026.

What you need to do
Maybe related
This is D2L without Sherpa.
Put together: Hospitality Reflection Part 1, due Wednesday, 11:59 PM, with 2 steps and a maybe-related announcement.
How it works
Sherpa does the searching. You do the work.
- Step 1
Find
Sherpa's Chrome extension reads your D2L courses — assignments, files, announcements and grades — and checks again every couple of hours.
- Step 2
Connect
It matches instructions and files to the assignment they belong to. Not sure? It says “maybe related.”
- Step 3
Do
Open any assignment to see what's due, what to do and where each part came from.
Plan ahead
Want it done early? Drag it there.
Move work to the day you’ll actually do it. The real due date never moves.
Sherpa Plus
Ask about it. Record the class.
Plus adds AI that explains your assignments and listens to your lectures, with sources you can check.
Pick a question to see how Sherpa answers.
- Press play to hear a sample class.
Trust
Your professor’s words, with the source attached.
A wrong instruction is worse than none. So Sherpa shows its work.
Reads the instructions
They become your steps, each one quoting your professor, with the source attached.
Point at any part of the page to see.
Every step shows its source
Steps quote your professor and say where the words came from. If Sherpa can't trace a step back, it leaves it out.
It says when it isn't sure
If a file or announcement might belong to an assignment, Sherpa shows it as “maybe related” and lets you decide.
Your schoolwork doesn't train AI
Sherpa uses OpenAI's API, which doesn't train on what it's sent. Sherpa doesn't sell your data or show ads.

Who’s behind it
Built by a student who knows what college is really like.
hey 👋
i’m joshua young! a 19-year-old sophomore at Oral Roberts University
let’s get to the point: i’ve lost so much time hunting through D2L for instructions buried three folders deep, so I built Sherpa. i’m trying to make finding your homework clearer, easier, and simpler
if you’re like me and D2L feels confusing, you’re trying your best to keep everything organized between your calendar, task tracker, class notes, and assignments. this is where Sherpa steps in. it brings all of that into one place and helps make sense of what you actually need to do
personally, i haven’t opened D2L in a couple weeks except to submit an assignment…
hope Sherpa helps 🤝
Coming soon
here’s what we’re building next 🏗️
right now Sherpa reads D2L through Chrome. that’s great on a laptop, but i want it everywhere you do homework
- Safarithe extension, for Safari too
- Macan app that lives on your Mac
- iPhonean app, so your homework's always in your pocket
Questions
Yes. With Sherpa for Universities, the school pays one yearly price based on how many students it has, and every student gets Sherpa Plus with 12 hours of class recording a week.
No. Sherpa doesn't write or submit anything for you. It finds the instructions your professor already posted and puts them in one place. You still do the work.
Not yet, unless you're at ORU. Sherpa is in an invite-only beta there. It's built for D2L Brightspace, so other D2L schools are next.
Through a Chrome extension, using the D2L login already open in your browser. It sees the same pages you can, it can't change anything, and it never sees your password.
For the extension, yes — or a Chrome-based browser like Dia, Arc, Edge or Brave. Sherpa itself works in any browser, including on your phone.
A small add-on for your browser. Sherpa's is free from the Chrome Web Store.
Sherpa can't read those sites directly yet. Take a screenshot and add it, and Sherpa reads it (with Plus).
You keep everything. You go back to the free plan with your assignments, notes and grades; only the AI features turn off.
No. Sherpa sends OpenAI only what it needs to answer you, through an API that doesn't train on it. Groq turns class audio into text and doesn't keep it.
Spend your time on the homework, not on finding it.
Free to start. Setup takes a few minutes.
